Return to Life Cycle Studies of Lower Rio Grande Valley Butterflies

On 10/20/2007, I observed a Pale-banded Crescent - Anthanassa tulcis ovipositing her eggs on the underside of a Dicliptera - Dicliptera vahliana leaf.  It took her about 20mins to complete ovipositing about 90 eggs.  I collected the eggs for rearing.  On 11/3/2007 the butterfly emerged and was released.

Dicliptera - Dicliptera vahliana is the host plant for Pale-banded Crescent - Anthanassa tulcis, and is an uncommon plant throughout the Lower Rio Grande Valley.  It is very evasive and is abundant at all formal butterfly gardens in the LRGV.
