Return to Life Cycle Studies of Lower Rio Grande Valley Butterflies

On 11/18/08, I observed a Mexican Silverspot - Dione moneta poeyii ovipositing on our Corky Stem Passionflower - Passiflora suberosa.  I collected the egg for rearing and brought it inside.  Thus began a 33 day study of the life cycle of this butterfly.

Corky Stem Passionflower - Passiflora suberosa, fairly common in the Rio Grande Valley, is the specific host plant for the Mexican Silverspot, although four other Passionflower species often occur together in the LRGV.
